Classification:Pergelic Cryohemist, euic.
Location:Northwest side of Toolik Lake, between S-7 and Toolik Lake, in marsh, surrounding small lake. Base of toposequence SWT-37 to SWT-47. 68°38' N, 149°38' W.
Physiographic position:Colluvial basin (marsh along small lake margin).
Topography:Strangmoor and aligned hummocks. Interhummock element.
Microrelief Height:15 cm.
Drainage:Very poorly drained.
Vegetation:Wet Carex chordorrhiza, Scorpidium scorpioides, Carex aquatilis s.l., sedge tundra
Parent material:Colluvial deposit.
Sampled by:D.A. Walker and C. Westberg, August 8, 1989.
Remarks:Water at surface. Thaw depth is > 1 m.
Weather:Clear, breezy.
Horizons:Colors are for the wet soil.
Oi10-2 cm. Dead sedge leaves and marl; abrupt, smooth boundary.
Oi22-32 cm. Dark brown after rubbing (7.5YR 3/2) fibric material with est. < 2 percent fine sand and silt; tight mat of sedge roots; saturated; pH = 5.6; abrupt smooth boundary. (Sample T-083).
Oa32-40+ cm. Very dark gray (7.5YR 3.5/1) gravelly loamy sapric material; saturated; gritty, slightly sticky, slightly plastic (wet); pH = 6.1; est. 20 percent fine gravel to 3 cm diameter. (Sample T-084).
