  2. Cushion of flowering plants. There are many saxifrage species on Iceland. The tufted saxifrage is one of the most common saxifrages. It grows all over Iceland, especially between stones and rocky areas. Characteristic for this species are the small rosettes and leafy flowering stems. Also characteristic is that the flowering shoots only bear one or two flowers.
